Elementary Library Home Page
Welcome to the elementary library! Our library has more than 13,000 books for students in grades K-6, nine computers, a few hundred video tapes and some DVDs for teacher use. Children in grades, 3, 4, 5 and 6 have one library class every six day cycle. Each marking period, one kindergarten, first and second grade homeroom will have library classes twice every six day cyle. The first class will be for book exchange, the second class will be for story sharing, instruction, and for book or curricular related follow-up.
Each year our elementary students are invited to participate in a reading incentive program called the "Reader's Choice Award." This program invites our children, along with other readers across our state, to vote for favorite books from a given list. Winning authors receive the Pennsylvania Reader's Choice Award. Children in grades 1-6 will be asked to keep track of titles read from September throughout the beginning of March when they will vote for one favorite book. In order to have his or her vote count, each child must have read or heard at least three of the books on the list. Forest City votes will be tallied with others throughout the state and winners will be announced in May.
ACCESS PA and Power Library are wonderful research sites you can access from home for free using your county library card number. Type in the name of your county library. Click on the ACCESS PA Power Library icon and you will be asked for your library card number. The homepage of the Power Library has a wealth of databases and safe websites. This resource has been jeopardized by the new state budget. We know at least some of these databases will be gone, hopefully at least some will remain.
A highlight of each school year is our Scholastic Book Fair which will be held in February this year. During the Fair, an Open House with a special guest and snacks, help make one night of the Fair extra special.
May this school year be a very successful one for your children! Please encourage them to read lots of books from as many sources as possible. Children in grades 3-6 are maintaining Reading Logs. Near the end of the year all Reading Logs will be tallied. The homeroom that has logged the most titles will have a party.
