Elementary Health and Physical Education

Welcome students and parents!  I am the Health & Physical Education Teacher for grades K - 6.  Below are 3 important components in teaching children how to develop motor skills & stay active.  I call these components the "3 healthy lifestyle habits".  Use the menu at the left to view the Physical Education Program page, the Health Topics page, & homework for health classes (grades 5 & 6).

Role Model  Physical & Object Control skills:

  • Walking - Leaping - Running - Jumping

  • Skipping - Galloping - Sliding - Hopping

Throwing - Catching - Kicking  Dribbling - Punting - Striking

  • Jumping Rope - Hiking

  • Riding bicycles - Swimming

  • Specific Sport Skills 

  • etc...

Challenge Students to meet Standards in the Health Related  Components :

Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Aerobic Endurance, & Flexibility.

  • Perform push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups

  • Walk/run 1/2 mile in 4 - 6 minutes

  • Hold stretches for 10, 20, or 30 seconds

  • Get to know, understand, & perform specific movements or activities so your heart, lungs, & muscles have the ability to do exercise over a long period of time.  Work up to 20 minutes of activity without stopping.   

Engage & Structure Children in performance related components:

  • Agility:  obstacle courses - dribbling patterns
  • Coordination:  jump rope - hopping patterns
  • Reaction Time:  catching - striking
  • Balance:  hiking - balance boards/beams
  • Power:  jump on/off - walk/run up hills
